The 12th China International Polyamide & Intermediates Forum, supported by Nylon Committee of China Chemical Fiber Association (CCFA) and China National Chemical Fiber Corp., organized by China Chemical & Fiber Economic Information Network (CCFEI) and Tecnon OrbiChem, is held at 9:00 a.m., 4th December, 2014 in Shanghai, China. Invista and Solvay are the main sponsors. Wang JianLi,Deputy General Manager of China Chemical & Fiber Economic Information Network (CCFEI), is the chairman of the morning session.Deng Jun, Secretary General, Nylon Committee of China Chemical Fibers Association presents us the first speech with the title Program for technology development of nylon industry. He begins with a review on achievements of nylon industry during the 12th Five-year Plan period, while pointing out some problems existing, including insufficient investment in innovation and gap with world advanced level. He then high-lighted the key high-tech projects during the 13th Five-year Plan period, and provides his suggestions to the technological development of the industry.

Against the backdrop of slower global economic development and tumbling crude oil, Charles Fryer, Board Chairman of Tecnon Orbichem brings us a speech focusing on uncertainties from slowing economic growth and cheaper energy. In his speech, he predicts that since massive caprolactam capacity additions in China is still continuing, more plants will be forced to close in high energy cost regions, while the fall in crude oil prices will improve the competitivity of polyamide versus polyester. However, he adds, such advantage is likely to disappear with lower crude oil prices

According to Mr. Engelhardt, growth rates of textile and apparel will weaken, with most of new textile volume between 2013 and 2020 met by polyester and viscose staple fibers. Nylon raw material, chip and spinning capacities will find it difficult to achieve economical run rates globally
